How Is Modified Starch Made?

Modified starch (pregelatinized starch / denatured starch) is produced through the combined action of high temperature, high pressure and shear force in the twin-screw extruder. The raw materials (corn starch, cassava starch, potato starch, etc.) are transformed into a gel state of super-heated rheological variant through the extrusion process, changing their original physical and chemical properties to form α-starch structure.

The final modified starch products are characterized by thermal viscosity, stability, freeze-thaw stability, gel strength, film-forming properties, and transparency. They are widely used in food processing, textile manufacturing, paper making, building materials, casting, and oil drilling fields.
